Rethinking Cybersecurity Training
In our pursuit of creating a cyber-safe educational environment, we, like many others, adopted a conventional approach to cybersecurity training. Scheduled around school district inservice days, this training was designed to arm our employees with the knowledge to protect against digital threats. We believed our strategy was making an impact—until reality nearly proved otherwise.
A near-miss involving one of our most veteran district office employees with a sophisticated 'man in the middle' attack served as a stark wake-up call. Despite her experience and previous training, she came dangerously close to falling prey to this deceptive cyber threat. This incident laid bare a critical flaw in our approach: infrequent training sessions were simply not enough to keep cybersecurity at the forefront of our daily routines.
This realization sparked a reevaluation of our strategy and led to the birth of Granular Training. We recognized the necessity for more frequent, engaging, and less intrusive training—something that could seamlessly integrate into the everyday lives of our staff without adding to their already substantial workload.
Thus, we developed two key solutions:
The Cybersecurity Screen Saver: A novel tool designed to provide continuous, passive cybersecurity reminders through daily interactions with their computers. Featuring a rotation of 40 essential cybersecurity tips, the screen saver serves as a constant, visual nudge towards safe online practices.
Interactive Email Training: Recognizing the need for more active learning, we propose more frequent interactive email training sessions. These concise, engaging modules are designed to efficiently convey critical cybersecurity information, test understanding, and ensure retention, all with minimal disruption to the busy schedules of our educators.

Our Story

Our email-based training prioritizes cyber safety, avoiding clickable links and focusing on relevant visuals. Users read the email, answer a multiple-choice question, and receive immediate feedback. Our campaigns deliver subsequent modules at strategic intervals, ensuring continuous learning and knowledge retention.
To measure comprehension, we created comprehensioncheck.com—an innovative service that assesses understanding through email interactions alone. By simplifying and expediting the learning process, we empower individuals to quickly grasp essential cybersecurity concepts.
